Top 10 Dog Breeds of 2012

What does it take to be a Top Dog in 2012?  Loyalty?  Personality?  Functionality?  The following dogs have wiggled their way into the Top 10 Breeds for 2012.

 

Labrador Retriever

Labradors Retrievers, or Labs, are a versatile breed that is great for families or an individual.  These dogs are highly trainable and have an extremely calm temperament, making them perfect for families with small children.  They have lots of energy and love to play with their people.  Labs are highly loyal and love to constantly be around their owners.

 

German Shepherd

German Shepherds are amazing dogs for service positions or a position within your family.  Commonly used as service animals or as police dogs, the German Shepherd is trainable to the extreme.  Their high intellect and people-pleasing tendencies make them a fantastic family dog. However, they get bored easily and if they are not properly exercised and challenged through play and training, they can get destructive.

 

Beagle

Beagles are loving, energetic, and mischievous.  With their trademark howl, the Beagle can get you in trouble with the neighbors.  These dogs love children and bond very closely with their family.  Happy and full of energy, Beagles require exercise and attention to keep them out of trouble.

 

 

Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are the quintessential family pet.  Their high-energy, friendly, adventurous and affectionate personalities have gained them a place in many hearts.  While their fur does require some grooming, they love running, swimming, and any other form of playing.  Goldens are very social within a family and even love most strangers!

 

Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terriers, commonly know as Yorkies, are a great breed for anyone looking for a small dog they can bring with them everywhere.  Yorkies have a ton of energy and love people, making them perfect for travel and spending all day with their owners.  They love to cuddle and get very attached to their owner.  These dogs are great for individuals, or a family.

 

English Bulldog

English Bulldogs have a well-earned reputation for being goofy, lovable loafs that love to sleep, play and cuddle.   Bullies, as they are commonly known, are extremely affectionate and absolutely love children. They are gentle and love their people.  They are always there to take any attention you have to offer!

 

Boxer

Boxers are known for their intense love of their “people”, especially children in the family.  Boxers are a larger breed, which makes their cuddling a bit of a challenge for some people, as your boxer will take any opportunity to cuddle up with you that they can.

 

 

Poodle

Poodles are an intelligent, affectionate, and hypoallergenic dog breed.  Their unique coat, with no undercoat, makes them perfect for families with allergies.  They need consistent grooming, and are often then victims of outrageous hairdos.   These dogs love to be trained and are fantastic dogs for a family with children.

 

Dachshund

Dachshunds are amazing dogs for a family looking for a very small breed.  They love children and have plenty of energy to run and play.  These dogs are excellent hunters and love games and toys involving play hunting.  Dachshunds are the perfect dog for families living in an apartment or with little to no yard.

 

 

Rottweiler

Rottweilers are known for their powerful build and protective nature.  These dogs are obedient, smart, and very affectionate towards their family.  Some Rottweilers are standoffish with strangers, but always loving and attached to their families.  If you do not want a giant cuddle-bug, a Rottweiler might not be the right dog for you!
